Ezra Merkin was head of a synagogue. Rod Blagojevich made online ethics training mandatory for all state employees.

And Tom Petters gave millions to Miami University of Ohio to set up an ethics center. (Miami has returned the money. Not to Petters. He’s in prison for fifty years. To a court-appointed receiver.)

What are we to make of Merkin, Blagojevich, and Petters?

Well, read your Elmer Gantry.

Then there’s lesser-known but equally reprehensible Robert Courtney, a pharmacist who diluted tens of thousands of doses of chemotherapy drugs in order to make a donation to his church.

    Hi UD,

The linked article refers to “Miami University of Ohio,” which is a different institution from the University of Miami (FL).

Daniel: Many thanks. I missed that entirely.

Maybe it would be worth investigating some crooked politician’s voting records – especially when it comes down to “being tough on crime”. Ah, being hard on the petty purse snatcher, and soft on the white-collar criminal who causes the downfall of a whole industry…
