It’s not satire. This is a fairly common sentiment among cranky local boosters at regional schools. I’ve seen it voiced before. Happens all the time in the state of Alabama.
Sometimes they have a point, when “Regional University of X” paraphernalia, intended to boost community among students and generate some licensing fees for the local college, is shoved out of the campus bookstore because all the kids are buying “Football Powerhouse Tech” shirts or “Flagship U” caps when they don’t even attend those schools. It would be like GW’s campus store making a mint selling Georgetown basketball tschotskis.
I never understood the allure of wearing the gear of a school you don’t even attend. What’s hilarious is when you spy a campus tour led by some kid wearing the logo of another institution — and no one in the tour group considers it odd. Different world down here.
