Hey. That’s nothing. When you graduate from the University of Louisville, you do so in the KFC YUM! Arena.

Nothing says finger-lickin’ dignified like having your university graduation ceremony at KFC YUM!

And now you got some reporter complaining about Rutgers University in this here headline:

CORPORATE SALES OF STADIUM NAMING RIGHTS FURTHER SULLIES COLLEGE ATHLETICS

First off, I think we can agree that big-time college athletics has long since reached sully-saturation, so let’s lose the further.

Second, High Points Solution is an information technology firm! That’s classy! It ain’t Kentucky Fried Chicken! Rutgers should count its lucky stars.

Ah, but Rutgers has been POURING money into football, while it cancelled all raises (on June 10, 2010–claiming fiscal crisis). Since most employees are unionized employees, the central administration broke 5 (count em 5) collective bargaining agreements.

While all of this is before the PERC, I did manage to get my promotion raise (today). The faculty merit raises and COLAS remain in arbitration. Since the promotion raise was to be paid this fiscal year (which is was as of today), clearly, the university had the cash to pay raises on July 1st. But didn’t want to.

The leadership would MUCH rather spend money (and get money) for football. To add insult to these multiple financial injuries, the team is lousy.

In defense of KFC Yum!, they actually make something that people want to buy, such as it might be. High Point Solutions feeds off bureaucracy and red tape (http://www.highpoint-solutions.com/). It might sound classier, but always be suspicious when the company has to assert that it has the “solutions” by putting the word in their name. Of course, this distinction does not detract from the fundamental distastefulness of the whole business.
