    This is very sad; but it’s soccer. The fatal flaw of soccer is that because there are so few goals, many, many games are in effect decided by the officiating. And then players and fans are furious. I suspect this is the reason soccer fans get violent when their team loses, not when it wins as Americans do. Otherwise, we’d have to conclude they’re just be bad sports.

    The fatal flaw of soccer is that because there are so few goals, many, many games are in effect decided by the officiating.

    The average margin of victory over the 2011 NBA season was 3.1 points. That’s two bad passes and a couple lay-ins over 48 minutes of play.
