“I… am deeply distraught at the concatenation of bad luck and worse judgment that has wrought such havoc on all that I hold dear.” Concatenation… now there’s a weasel word I have seen played by crooks before. He suggests he didn’t do any of it – it just concatenated on him.
Why can’t I get bosses like that? If he gets promoted while in prison, imagine the promotion I could get! I have never been in prison (except to visit).

adam: Yes – His whole sentence, actually, is a model of bad style and moral evasion. And he’s a writing professor.
