“Although the cuts are mainly targeted towards the liberal arts side, the athletic department knew they weren’t exempt.”

Shite! Things are so bad at the University of Montana that they’re not just going to gut their liberal arts — THEY MIGHT GO AFTER ATHLETICS TOO.

Unintentionally funny. I’m waiting for a press release: “Campus Cuts Core Functions–Athletics, Parking, Grounds, Wellness Center, Housing, Legal to Take Hit”.

(off-topic)…possibly of interest under the heading “unusual careers pursued by people with English degrees.” Here’s a woman who got a PhD in English, took a job as a railroad brakeman, and wrote a truly great memoir about her experiences. I reposted my review here:

First they came after the history department, but I didn’t play history, so I did not speak up.

Then they came for the literature department, but I didn’t play literature, so I did not speak up.

Then they came for the cross country program, and I was like, what’s cross country and why are these skinny dudes wearing university clothing all the time?

Then they came for the football team but no one was in the stadium anyway. Wait, where was I going with this again?
