a Cooper’s Hawk.

Our campus and nearby neighborhood has many of them. I thought they were supposed to be territorial. The bird carcasses with the hearts ripped out are the hawks’ handiwork.
tp: I know they’ve been around because of the big piles of woodpecker feathers all over my paths.
