A recent Science Friday investigated the absence of research studies of gun violence. Why does the CDC, for instance, shy away from supporting this sort of research?
The NRA “declined to come on the program,” but sent a statement complaining that researchers typically fail to mention positive outcomes associated with gun ownership, and only incorporate
“negative” outcomes such as suicide and/or homicides.

I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that the NIH is forbidden from asking (or funding) the question.

Jim: That’s the impression I got from the Science Friday program as well.

I understand the CDC is affected by the same Congressional ban on research into gun-related deaths.

It’s called the Dickey Amendment and it is a patent absurdity that is, ironically, used for the gun lobby to argue that we don’t have enough data on how gun control might be effective.

How does Tyrion Lannister put it?
