As a non-prof, I don’t want to mess with someone else’s line of work. But, I have noticed a very junior, very energetic prof publishing annotated bibliographies for a $50,000 a year salary, while at the same institution, a senior layabout prof publishes annotated bibliographies for $100,000 a year. I suspect the former works 60 hours a week to get her teaching chops down; the latter maybe 20 hours a week sipping coffee in the president’s suite.
Oh, and the athletics side of things. Damn near forgot how that screws up notions of pay equity.
