“Kentucky’s gun laws are among the worst in the country, and the state’s gun death rate is above the national average.”

Louisville is way bloody, and the other night the blood was featured in a video someone took of the shooting death, on the street, of a seventeen year old.

He died outside a restaurant whose liquor license the city has suddenly suspended — says it was “noncompliant” … meaning, I guess, they let in the tyke, and his sixteen year old … friend? killer? and served them alcohol or something.

The place stays open til one AM, and I know you’re wondering not just why the tykes had guns, but also why they were out and about at 1:30 AM, which is when they were shot.

The 16 year old is in critical condition.

Ah, fuck it.

An Afghan woman living here legally was accused of being a terrorist by a secretive federal court. Rather than make a fuss about it, she decided to concede her ISIS membership and leave.

 Acting Deputy Executive Associate Director.

I was minding my own business, following a big ol’ fraud story, when I stumbled on Acting Deputy Executive Associate Director on Homeland Security Investigations Matthew Millhollin, and my eyes just POPPED at all those adjectives…

À la Recherche du SCSU

‘Susan Kwosek, an assistant professor of history, said she’s teaching eight classes this semester, twice as many as a normal four-course load.’

Is their former chair of the board of trustees still in prison?… No, he’s out; he’s also done with his three years of post-prison supervision… Put South Carolina State University in my search engine if you want the remarkable story of this remarkable institution.

‘The game was called due to people fleeing the area in response to … gunshots.’

A whole new set of rules.

UD is fascinated by these auction announcements.

Round and round they go about what an absolutely irresistible thing the property is.

But it hasn’t sold; and they’re auctioning it off for (relative) peanuts, and maybe even the auction will fail.

Strange.

My old friend Scott’s Global Fund gets the attention it deserves.

When I wrote this post a few days ago, only a few outlets took notice of the great generosity of the Wallace Global Fund toward the eradication of female genital mutilation. The story has now jumped, as it should, to the Guardian. Next stop, one hopes, the NYT.

Like the poor, religious fanatics we will always have with us.

The federal appeals court in Nawlins boasts a lot of holy rollers, and they’re not about to let the odd Supreme Court precedent get in the way of forcing the Ten Commandments into every public classroom in their state.

Looziana “has assumed the authority to determine and declare religious truth in violation of the Establishment Clause.” Says here.

Nice tidy block where everybody’s got a pickup, a third of each house is a garage, and everyone recycles.

It’s heartland America – Oklahoma – where folks leave their kids alone with loaded guns.

Resulting in the rather odd outcome of an eleven year old girl arrested for second degree murder. Of her brother.

When guns are outlawed…

America responds to the child deaths by gun crisis

‘An estimated 32 million children in the United States live in homes with firearms, nearly 7 million of whom have at least one firearm in the household that’s unlocked and loaded.’

Temple of Doom

All universities have sandblast embarrassments.

This blog has covered tons of schools on the receiving end of what turn out to be criminal donations.

When the eminent donor, whose name may emblazon an entire school, emerges into the light of day as a dirty little rat, there’s much to be done. Sandblast his name, for sure; but damage control will be far more than this. There’s not merely the obvious pr disaster to negotiate; there’s the matter of the school now having to return what might be tens of millions of buckaroos. That hurts.

Temple University for some reason is always blasting its walls, rescinding its honorary degrees, and forcing bad boys off the board of trustees.

The latest miscreant.

That was March of this year, and, if you read the whole thing, the feds were already sniffing around.

They got him.
