Yes. Good point.

But then why, in the same article that quotes this university scientist, is he described as having “published articles in nearly 500 scientific journals”?

Note: Not having published 500 scientific articles, which already strains credulity. Having published articles in 500 different journals.

    Wow! One wonders why he is author on so many articles. My guesses are: (1) his name as author helps the article get published, (2) his co-authors wanted to curry favor with him (or avoid disfavor), (3) his co-authors are showing gratitude ("the secret hope of further favors"), (4) he has control of a unique supply of material or a unique process only his lab can do, or (5) he really is that good.
