I talk a lot about conflict of interest on this blog.

My old friend, Peter Galbraith, stands accused of it. An article about the matter appears on the front page of today’s New York Times.

    Ummm, this is laughable:

"[PG’s interests]have the potential to inflame some of Iraqis’ deepest fears, including conspiracy theories that the true reason for the American invasion of their country was to take its oil"

News flash: this is NOT a conspiracy theory. We are interested in the region BECAUSE OF OIL.

PG’s involvement doesn’t bother me in the least. People benefit [read: make money] from war, famine, catastrophe, etc, all the time.

But $115 MILL is a staggering amount of money.

People make money all the time. They don’t pretend to be disinterested statesmen while they’re doing it if they have ethics.
