… has been on top of the Why the Hell is Ruth Simmons on the Goldman Sachs Board? story; but there’s also a very strong-minded Brown student who’s been after her. And of course UD‘s had her own wee say on the matter.
Now that Simmons has quit the board, Volokh Conspiracy wraps things up.

I think board structure, in organizations of all kinds, needs to be seriously rethought. For one thing, I don’t think it’s reasonable for anyone to be on more than 2-3 boards and hold down a full-time job at the same time…one of these activities will fail to receive the attention it deserves. (Exception for venture capitalists, where being on boards *is* a big part of their full-time jobs, unlike university administrators and corporate CEOs)
And joining the Goldman board to learn more about economics is kind of like taking one’s first flying lesson as copilot of an airliner carrying passengers.

Take look at this column from the Brown student newspaper: http://www.browndailyherald.com/will-wray-10-shame-on-ruth-1.2156841
Curiously, there is no link to it on the front page of the website, nor was there one on the day it was published. I first saw it in the print version, and then went looking for the link.
