The year between graduating with my PhD and getting a job at a University – you know what I missed most? Online access to the OED. Seriously, it was the only online database I missed having access to. MLA, JSTOR, even Lexis-Nexis, I could live without. But there were several dozen times I wanted to check something on the OED online.

Don’t know if you’re aware of this: the MoCo library system has an online OED subscription, at
http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/apps/libraries/researchatopic/atoz.asp#O
You log in with your library card number and your PIN (which is your year-of-birth).
