Since I’m on a little kick about land grant universities and the proper role of research/education in them…

Heck is at Delaware, Negishi is at Purdue, and Suzuki is at Hokkaido. The first two institutions are… You guessed it.

Negishi is the Herbert C. Brown professor at Purdue. HCB is an earlier winner of the Prize for his work on boron hydrides.

Go Boilers! And LGIs in general.

    Palladium-catalyzed cross coupling
Does indeed sound an awful lot like schtupling.
But since we’re talking of physicists
    Chance of sexual excess is
So low that it feels deeply troubling.

  3. Bill Gleason Says:

    Puhleeze, Dave. They are chemists!

Whoops! I was still thinking of the levitating frog. Let’s try this:

    Palladium-catalyzed cross coupling
Does indeed sound an awful lot like schtupling.
But since we deal with a chemist
    The link’s falsely premised.
No sex while the test tubes are bubbling.

  5. MattF Says:

Interesting to note that actual chemists are cheering this one.

  6. Bill Gleason Says:

The comments on the article MattF has cited are WELL worth reading. (click link cheering)

Go Blue Hens! BS UD 1982 Chem. This was rumored for years as a strong possibility for a Nobel Prize. Here’s to more cross-couplings!
