Breaking news, indeed. It’s a shame that UD hasn’t posted on this new phenomenon before.
In all seriousness: I’m trying an experiment with my summer class, one that I’ll hopefully use with other classes. I’m going to ask them in class how much media is around them when they’re reading and writing, and then have a group discussion of how this does or doesn’t help them. I’ve asked this during office hours before, but I got the idea for a group discussion from a commenter on the Chronicle.
I’m guessing the minimum will be 2.

@jf of course if you believe the studies that multitaskers by and large overestimate their ability to be productive and that people tend to be immune to data/info that goes against their predispositions….
