The NCAA shouldn’t shut down Penn State football. Reason?

Unlike Southern Methodist University (the last university program to be shut down):

At SMU, the violations expressly gave it a competitive advantage.

  1. Mr Punch Says:

The Penn State and SMU cases are similar to the extent that both went right to the top within the institutions. AT SMU, however, the malfeasance was directly related to football (basically, paying the players, which a lot of people seem to think is a fine idea) — against the NCAA’s rules but not necessarily in violation of Texas law. I’m not unhappy to have the NCAA stick to enforcing its own rules while leaving criminal justice issues to the civil authorities.
