… that I ignore most of them and only feature the very worst. The Florida A&M hazing death definitely rates inclusion. The family of the student beaten to death on the marching band’s bus has sued, and FAMU has argued that the kid brought it on himself.
This ignores the fact that FAMU has spent decades ignoring a hazing culture that anyone could see was spinning out of control. UD thinks the school should take the fall – might knock some sense into all the other sports factories that do the same sort of thing.

What is also amazing is that over 100 members of the band were not even students. http://news.yahoo.com/famed-famu-marching-band-suspended-another-152012998.html
From http://www.thefamuanonline.com/news/bot-many-of-the-100-were-not-enrolled-at-famu-when-champion-was-killed-1.2739708#.UE8RD438tq8
Of the 457 people who want to the Classic that weekend, 331 were FAMU students, 25 were employees of the university, 49 were students of either Tallahassee Community College or Florida State University, and 52 were formerly enrolled at FAMU but not “at the time of the incident,” according to the board. The university stipulates that members of the Marching “100” must be enrolled in a music class.”
What is amazing that a person could be a member of the band while enrolled in a single class and yet, 100 people could not be bothered.
