It feels a little odd to be in the position of defending Ward Churchill, but his Eichmanns comment was delivered in an essay, not in the classroom in front of a captive audience – a somewhat different act, IMHO. Also, his comments about 9/11 were (quite rightly in my view) not taken into account in the decision to fire him. They may have brought him attention, but it was research misconduct (IIRC) which did him in.
