Actually, I think there’s a backstory here. I never heard of this Baberowski fellow before, but it seems like his main offense has been to describe Stalin as Satan incarnate, to which some folks wistful for the DDR have taken offense and made it sound like he said that Hitler wasn’t such a bad guy after all by comparison. I think his argument is that Stalin was a hands-on bad guy while Hitler had his buddies do the dirty work.

So, in short and by way of a Miller Analogy, Hitler was to megalomaniacal, sadistic insanity what Old Money is to the newer sort.
