Limerick.

The way-Catholic Cardinal Ritter
Is standing knee-deep in the shitter.
But what can they do?
That fucking tattoo.
At least you can't call the team quitters.

UD, if you haven’t read “Shake Down The Thunder,” I highly recommend you do. Ostensibly, it deals with the history of Notre Dame football from inception to Rockne’s death. It also gives a fascinating insight into college football’s corruption since the early 1900s. In order to be competitive, teams would hire ringers, non-students who were there only to play football. But what’s fascinating is that these men would change identities and continue playing after eligibility expired. Termed “ghost players,” they would go from team to team, often playing until thirty. In some cases, players would go so far as to wear devices that masked their identities. Looks like Cardinal Ritter went REAL old school to get their guy on the field…

charlie: I had no idea of any of that. Thanks for pointing me toward sources on it!
