The little hand print on his knee…

… is most eloquent. But Sandusky will nonetheless be painted over.

  1. The Professor Says:

The strange thing is that come February 14, all across the fruited plain, hundreds of universities will allow the performance of a play that celebrates the rape of a 13 year old by an adult.

  2. Margaret Soltan Says:

I take it you mean The Vagina Monologues, tp.

  3. Stephen Karlson Says:

And yet Sandusky will vanish, in the manner of Trotsky and Kamenev and Zinoviev, from the official murals.

  4. The Professor Says:

I did indeed have that in mind, UD. Admittedly, it appears that many places bowdlerize it and make the recollections come from a vaguely older teen.

PSU deserves the torrents of outrage it is getting, but I wonder how far the developing “Paterno Principle” of reporting second-hand information can be taken. I once had a very upset student tell me about a situation in which a 15-year-old relative of hers had been discovered to be having sex with a 20-year-old relative. This was being dealt with by two very angry daddies and no law enforcement was involved. This was consensual sex, but still statutory rape in this state. Did I have a duty to report this to the police despite it being told to me in strict confidence? I didn’t think so at the time.

University Diaries. Hosted by Margaret Soltan, professor of English at George Washington University. Boy is she pissed — mostly about athletics and funding, the usual scandals — but also about distance learning and diploma mills. She likes poems too. And she sings.
