I’m relieved that Boca Raton –Frank, Sammy, Dean and I call it “Boca” — is not under threat, so that people can safely enjoy drinks, golf, snazzy golf wear and dinners so early that they’re belated. Boca’s integral to Florida, which began as a real estate scam (yes all of it pretty much) and then destroyed its wetlands (after that, the deluge and the flood) and most of its natural beauty. Wallace Stevens would now have to look hard for its “immense dew,” “flakes of flames” and anything “angering for [much of a ] life.” http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/240850. It exists now mainly as an endless strip mall, cultural desert and breeding ground for politicians, such as Gosar, and often as a baleful influence on our political life. Fun fact: it is one of the top states for death by lightening, so I guess one gambles simply by being there.

Greg: One of my sisters lived in Boca for awhile, and I learned then to call it Boca.

It’s hard for me to imagine your performing an entirely non-ironic speech-act based on that knowledge.
