‘[University of Delaware Professor David] Legates is a signatory of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation’s “An Evangelical Declaration on Global Warming.” The declaration states: “We believe Earth and its ecosystems — created by God’s intelligent design and infinite power and sustained by His faithful providence — are robust, resilient, self-regulating, and self-correcting, admirably suited for human flourishing, and displaying His glory. And what about smaller natural systems, say himself or his family and friends? Would these people — I am consciously using that term and we know who they are in general — use antibiotics for meningitis or have their appendix removed if abscessed? Or would he/they leave it to divine providence? It seems to me that, with respect to thoughtful, scientific messing with the natural world to improve or save it, in for a dime in for a dollar.
