Wanting to study: A problem that’s hard to explain.

Whether it’s because there are too many distractions nowadays or they want to study, students, who are paying athletics fees to support the sports programs, aren’t interested in going to games. It’s not a problem unique to [the University of Akron].

“That’s a trend everywhere,” [Joel Maxcy, a sports management professor,] said. “It’s hard to explain.”

All the universities in Ohio other than Ohio State University should drop their athletic programs. The students are not interested. The local population could not care less. Most of the schools cannot consistently win because any coach that can win in the MAC will be offered a job at a better school.

No fan interest. No community interest. No long term ability to succeed. Considering that any student who is a sports fan was an Ohio State University fan in high school but could not get admitted to that school, the schools should save their students some money and drop sports.

superdestroyer: Yes. The very same arguments can be made about plenty of other schools, starting with the University of Hawaii.
