Where I come from those aren’t stumps but rather logs. Down Under, the stump is what’s left of the tree poking above the ground after the loggers have had their way it. Recall the phrase Beyond the Black Stump, denoting the edge of Nowhere.
Going obsessive-compulsive here, but I’m seeing logs used as lecterns, which, by generous extension, may be called stumps because of their use in a political forum.
That headline? Priceless. I’d really like to see pols abolish their own “big wind” projects.
