University Diaries. Hosted by Margaret Soltan, professor of English at George Washington University. Boy is she pissed — mostly about athletics and funding, the usual scandals — but also about distance learning and diploma mills. She likes poems too. And she sings.

one can only hope that the undertow is brutal

So don’t forget to make whatever down ballot contributions you can to key Democrats. Imagine a continuation of the worst of the last eight years.* Legislative gridlock, impeachments — though without convictions — a frozen, shrunken Supreme Court. Something like Benghazi accusations all day, everyday. In “The History Boys one character asks another “What is history?” He responds “one fuckin’ thing after another.” That’s what it would be, continue to be.
*I say that, feeling, all in all, that President Obama has been the best of my lifetime. He did well in the face of “massive resistance.” I just missed FDR and perhaps, just to be fair, should brush up a little on Harry and Dwight before making this claim. But as to the others it is an easy call for BO, but for varying reasons.

dmf: Wow. Houston Chronicle endorses Clinton.
Not sure I agree about the brutal undertow. As the Trump Troupe noisily makes its way out of town, I think things should be handled with infinite delicacy. Don’t want to rouse the nativists.

To be fair, although it almost always endorses Republicans, the Houston Chronicle endorsed Obama in 2008.

Derek: I didn’t know that. Thanks.

Well, it also endorsed Romney in 2012 and every Republican presidential candidate for at least 10 elections before 2008, so your instincts are right.
