Hats, or rather helmets, off to this not-very-good second stringer headed for the bench, waivers, or even worse, the Cleveland Browns! In real life, you’re not starting because you never learned to read an NFL defense, but now it will be because your coach is a racist–and probably one of those FOP supporters to boot. College presidents and diversity coordinators all across the fruited plain pant lustfully to write you big checks on the SJW lecture circuit. The jerseys and pig socks are just the start of a merchandise empire…and then there’s the ESPN gig and maybe a talk show.

An entrepreneur has been born! Is this a great country or what?

tp: I don’t think your cynicism (of course I have plenty of my own cynicism) is particularly well-aimed on this one.

I could be wrong. It’s certainly true that America’s consistent genius lies in figuring out a way to make money out of anything. Yes.

But that doesn’t mean authentic non-mercenary things don’t happen here as well. This looks like one of them at the moment.

But of course it will turn sour at some point I suppose.

    And yet…

I think he was supposed to show up today in some church in San Francisco to reap the sort of reward you have in mind – but he didn’t show up, and all those dignitaries were left waiting for him… So… Let’s look on the bright side: The guy could turn out to be authentically rude as well as authentically independent-minded. You never know.
