‘Asked in 2006 by L’Express if she suffered from his reputation as a womanizer, she said: “No! I’m even proud of it. It’s important to seduce, for a politician. As long as he is still attracted to me, and I to him, it is sufficient.”’

UD suggests Melania Trump take the French way out. She should plagiarize this now-famous statement by Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s now-ex-wife, and turn what is for others a problem into a point of pride.

Herself a European, Melania can bring the proper accent to this defense of the politician as seducer — a defense I’m sure American women will find compelling.

  1. Contingent Cassandra Says:

I think the ability to seduce/connect thing correctly identifies at least part of Bill Clinton’s (and many male politicians’, and a fair number of male pastors’, and probably some male professors’) problem(s): the very qualities that make you good at your job can also take you over a line, and get you in trouble.

Trump is more of a salesman (mostly of himself), which may or may not fall in the same category. Probably so.

And then, of course, there’s the line between seduction and assault, which Trump has pretty much admitted to crossing.

  2. Margaret Soltan Says:

Contingent Cassandra: I think you’re right — but then there are pols like Trump and Strauss-Kahn who apparently think they are seductive but whose vileness has people (women at least) racing for the exits the moment they see them.

  3. Sean O Says:

Trump is insulated from reality by his colossal ego, his money and the stupidity of clueless Americans who fawn at the rich.
