University Diaries. Hosted by Margaret Soltan, professor of English at George Washington University. Boy is she pissed — mostly about athletics and funding, the usual scandals — but also about distance learning and diploma mills. She likes poems too. And she sings.

Criminality aside, the most maddening thing is that this sh*tshow is run with our New Jersey tax dollars. While the folks that drive cars with the big red “R” on them might derive some satisfaction that Rutgers plays in the Big Ten and routinely is beaten by Ohio State 56-0 (2017) and 52-3 (2018), the rest of us simply see public money poured down the drain. Makes no sense.

$47mm operating loss for the athletic department in 2017, funded by student fees, loans and transfers.
this vs a budgeted loss of $23mm, which is a pretty shameful thing to sign up for.
you could endow the faculty of an entire humanities department with what rutgers has lost in athletics the past decade.
good thing we don’t need the humanities (or so I’ve been told).
