tp: What I’ve noticed about feminists and FGM is, overwhelmingly, an uncomfortable silence. Most just don’t want to go there. But President Obama went there; he spoke out against FGM very forcefully indeed.. So don’t be so sure that other politicians, in the Obama mold, will inspire attacks on my (his) position.

The feminist element here ain’t talking any more about a topic that was BIG for a long, long time and in fact a central element in some classes. At some point in the last decade it was snipped from the curriculum. Mum’s the word in these quarters.

tp: You’re right – and the culprit – as with the burqa/niqab – is a kind of mindless cultural relativism. But that could change. I think it will.
