A number of years ago there was an attorney in Rhode Island who started his own political party called (seriously) the Cool Moose Party. One of his platforms was to auction off state jobs. So, if the Department of Redundancy Department needed clerical help, you would set the minimum standards and collect resumes. You would weed out the ones that didn’t qualify and auction the job off to those that did. He was serious.
