It has a Burghers of Calais feel to it.

Or, Burqas of Calais now that I think about it.

Burqas of Calais: love it. And you’re right to have been reminded of a sculpture – I find this an exceptionally evocative, and somehow classical – photo.

Maybe also because it looks like pieces of sculpture covered by white cloth…

The photo has iconic potential. I fear for the hands and feet of the women that are showing.
The common interpretation of the Rodin is the sacrifice of a few for the many which the photo also suggests in a way. I don’t know if that’s the current scholarship, though.

Ravi: I too worry about the sluttish exposure of those hands and feet. Where are her gloves?

Looks like well-sculpted marble to me. The third woman’s head tilt and resigned posture hints at Pieta.

Well, that’s enough overthink for one day.
