Ravi: (Might as well keep our exchange on this thread.) Those sentences seem okay to me. What these two did was illegal but not enormous, and their jail time, money penalties, and probation are all in line with other Varsity Blues outcomes. To me what’s crucial is that they will go to jail. None of this is to deny separate justice systems for the rich and the poor; it is to say that in the case of this particular crime, justice was adequately served.
They bargained down from 20 years to a couple of months. I’ll be surprised if it isn’t further reduced. Yes, it is in line with other Varsity Blues outcomes. More’s the pity. In a prior comment thread, now undiscoverable, we discussed the inevitable TV movie. Sure bet that the contract is signed and that casting is underway.

2 months and 5 months. That’ll show the world American justice is unbiased and uniform without regard to rank or position.
