One of Paul Fussell’s X’s Just Won the Nobel in Economics.

If you’re having trouble grasping Fussell on the phenomenon of X’s, consider Philip Dybvig.

[I play] instruments such as the erhu and the hulusi. I also enjoy weightlifting, Taiji, Qigong, Tui Shou (push hands), and walking…

*********************

Professor Dybvig’s leisure time is spent playing and composing music, cooking, playing taijiquan, and lifting weights.

A study in contrasts.

  1. Rita Says:

That guy looks like a werewolf. I don’t think that’s what Fussell had in mind. X’s are fashionably cultured in things obscure to the general public, but they have to be known to other X’s. They couldn’t have a class identity if it was every man in his own yurt playing taijiquan solo.

Also, the awards from China – “Thousand-person plan award”?

Rita: If you click on the photo and look at the title I gave it, it says WEREWOLFLONDON.
