One can hope that the Ambassador has the presence of mind to throw various breaches of protocol back at them. Surprising that Orbán has such free passage outside of official visits.
NATO’s prospects don’t look good in any case. Hungary, Turkey, and now Italy form a strong fifth column.
Italy remains, far as I know, a staunchly pro-NATO country.
My sense is that the majority of Turks have democratic instincts, and that future governments there could be far more democratic.
Huge numbers of liberal, democratic, educated Hungarians have left the country. I hold out no hopes for the place at all. After its little friend Vlad implodes, it will recede into total irrelevance.

Debate within NATO will be affected when one member is snuggled with a violent opponent.
Rumours of Putin’s (and Trump’s) implosion have been bruited for some time now. There is an appetite for their menu.

You’re absolutely right that a Trump/Putin implosion has more to do with desperate wish-fulfillment than anything else at the moment …
Though – okay – I actually think we’re watching – in very slow time – Trump’s implosion.
