God has given this nation 500 million guns, and has scattered them abroad in such a way that every moment of every day one is found unattended.

University Diaries. Hosted by Margaret Soltan, professor of English at George Washington University. Boy is she pissed — mostly about athletics and funding, the usual scandals — but also about distance learning and diploma mills. She likes poems too. And she sings.

Since it was only left for 3 minutes, and it was unloaded, and the guy was a policeman, which means both he should have known better, and policemen are supposed to have guns, not the best example, especially since he was disciplined appropriately.
Its not like when the dog shot its own master with the master’s unattended loaded gun, the gold standard of fucking stupidity(on the part of the gun owner). Poor doggy probably scared by the noise!
its even better than the school superintendent who left his loaded gun in a elementary school boys’ bathroom. So many questions about that one.

Matt: It was only there 3 mins because another officer saw it and moved it. Ammo was right next to it. The whole thing was on camera, of course, which makes the captain’s behavior all the more idiotic.
But my point is about the constant work and domestic scattering of the gun (recall the excellent Murdaugh family – their hundreds of guns were scattered absolutely everywhere. Much too drunk to care.) all over the place all the time. We only notice when a four year old takes one from a bed and shoots her head off, but smaller events like this one happen every day.

I just finished “The Odyssey” today(Wilson translation). At one point Telemachus says, “The presence of weapons makes men more violent.”
