Les UDs leave in a few hours…

… for Sedona, Arizona. UD has always wanted to see the red rocks. She’s also never been to the Grand Canyon. Weather for the week seems to be sunny and in the fifties.

UD‘s a Baltimore girl (born in Johns Hopkins Hospital, when her father was a JHU grad student in biochemistry); when she was eight, her parents moved the family to England for a year, and then when they returned to the States, home was Bethesda, Maryland (UD‘s father had a long career at the National Institutes of Health). They had a little weekend house on the Chesapeake Bay.

Although, growing up, UD went to Europe a lot, she seems to have neglected the area west of Skyline Drive. A few trips to California; a stay in Park City, Utah, a stay in Telluride, Colorado …

In short, UD‘s a real east coaster (well, undergrad and grad in Chicago…) and it’s way past time for her to go out west.

Blogging will continue.

    I went to Topeka once.

  2. Daniel S. Goldberg Says:

The Grand Canyon is everything it’s cracked up to be, no awful pun intended. I mean, for goodness sake, it’s visible from space. How could standing before it not be astonishing?

    Enjoy!

  3. Margaret Soltan Says:

    francofou: LOL.

    Daniel: Many thanks.

  4. Bill R Says:

If you are driving from Phoenix, can I suggest a long route to Sedona through Payson rather than the quicker interstate?

You’ll get a great view of the classic and beautiful Sonoran desert with its Saguaro cactus and all of the other classic desert flora.

You’ll also pass thru several climate zones and some very beautiful landscapes.

Montezuma’s Castle, an Indian cliff dwelling, is on the way and well worth a visit.

However you go, as a fellow easterner I promise you. You’re in for a treat.

  5. Polish Peter Says:

Mr. and Mrs. Polish Peter had tasty sandwiches at a place called Indian Gardens Oak Creek Market up the valley heading north from Sedona. Nice little dive: http://oakcreekmarket.com/. I second Bill R’s recommendation about Montezuma’s Castle. Not on the scale of the big cliff dwellings of the Four Corners area, but a nice example nonetheless.

Bill R – Sounds like a great suggestion. Even as I write, Mr UD is examining our map. Thank you.
